Thanks for the wonderful product. Am a happy user with 2730.
I connect 2730 to Macbook Air (mid2011) via USB, and also connected to my IMac via firewire800, both worked great!
Recently Mac came out with a adapter to connect firewire800 to Mac thunderbolt. (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A) This will greatly increase the transfer speed from 2730 to my Macbook Air. However, my Macbook air is unable to detect the 2730 drive when connected this way.
I have tried the same adaptor with another external firewire800 disk with no issue.
(My Macbook Air uses OS 10.7.4 I have updated all Mac and Nexto firmware. Macbook Air and Nexto are connected to power during test)
[Recently Mac came out with a adapter to connect firewire800 to Mac thunderbolt. This will greatly increase the transfer speed from 2730 to my Macbook Air.] No, it won't. The speed is limited to Firewire 800 speed. Macbook Air's " firewire800 to Mac thunderbolt" solution currently has many many incompatibility issues with external drives and card readers. That's why I bought New MBP with FW800, USB3 model. Good luck!!

I also have this issue with the newest Macbook Pro 2013.
I have bought the Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter cable but the Nexto 2730 will not appear when connected this way.
If I then plug in the USB it shows up fine.
I have tried formatting the Nexto to FAT32 and ExFAT just to be sure.
I have also tried it one 3 different Macbook Pros.
